I just read an article on CNN.com that disclosed what it's like to change your lifestyle from one of not caring about the 6 donuts you just shoved in your mouth to one advocated by the Federal Government via USDA guidelines on making sure you eat according to the food pyramid. I felt like I wrote it. The first two weeks (ok, who am I kidding, 4 weeks is more realistic) are hard. You absolutely feel consumed by paying attention to portions and what to eat, and what not to eat. Making sure you are working out enough. Making sure that you change up the workout so you don't plateau and scream in rage as the scale doesn't move. It just plain sucks. BUT, it works. And that's why it's just that much more difficult. THEY, the anonymous assholes who come up with these "guidelines" are right. You look better, you feel better, and gosh darn it, you like yourself and admitting that THOSE guys are right is like rubbing gourmet sea salt into a festering wound.
